Okay, confirmation students...see how your memorization of the catechism can pay off?
Thanks to Chris Rosebrough for posting this at Extreme Theology, and for saying it all when he wrote, "Laugh or cry. This is sad on so many levels."
The thing is, if I was in this guy's shoes, and this was the only message I was sending out on YouTube, I would be sure to include something about the fact that not only do we not know God's Law perfectly, we don't keep it perfectly either! That's where the Gospel comes in. And that's what's missing in this presentation. He leaves you with the impression that it's simply all about knowing and keeping God's Commandments. And that's only going to lead you to either pride (and a false pride, at that) or despair.
Oh, and by the way, if you do decide to take up the challenge, I fully expect to see a $20,000 check in the plate after you win.

Lutherans will have little chance succeeding in this contest. The commandment ordering is reformed (#2 - No graven images) which would fail any properly catechized lutheran.
Even if this numbering problem could be surmounted, the lutheran is still going to start "You shalt not have any other Gods" then fail the quiz by continuing, "What does this mean? We should fear, love and trust God above all things."
Dennis, if I had 20 grand to give away, I'd give it to you for being the first to point this out to me. I was waiting to see if anyone would. I thought about making your points in the post, but then thought, "No, let's see if anyone picks up on it."
Either my congregation is 1) not reading my blog, 2) not watching the videos I post, or 3) needing better catechesis from their pastor. (I'd like to think it's only 1 and 2, but 3 is probably a factor, too...after all, Luther said that he was a perpetual student of the catechism. That goes for all of us.)
