Haiti Earthquake

One of the missions our congregation has supported is the Nord Est Haiti Lutheran Mission which is located in Ounaminthe, Haiti. The Rev. Daniel Paul has been operating an orphanage there for a number of years and teams from our area have travelled to help in the construction.

Ouanaminthe is in the northeastern corner of the country. The capital of Haiti was struck by a large earthquake yesterday with much destruction and loss of life. Here is an email which was forwarded to me written by Emily Bartelheimer, an active supporter of the mission.

Bonswa,

I spoke with Pastor Daniel today. They felt the earthquake in
Ouanaminthe, but there does not appear to be any damage to the
orphanage especially the new construction. Pastor and his family
lived in Port-au-Prince until 2007. As a result, he has many friends
and family members in Port-au-Prince. All Haitian communication lines are down and he has not been able to reach any of them.

Please continue to pray for the country. As Pastor Daniel said, "The
Lord still is at work. We just have to have faith."

Emily

Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti and for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are faced with such tragic losses of life and property ... what little, that is, the people of that impoverished nation have.
