Thanksgiving for Light LSB 245
L Blessèd are You, O Lord our God, king of the universe, who led Your people Israel by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Enlighten our darkness by the light of Your Christ; may His Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; for You are merciful, and You love Your whole creation and we, Your creatures, glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

PSALMODY

Psalm 141 LSB 245

Psalm Psalm 132:8–18
Arise, O Lord, and go to your | resting place,*
you and the ark | of your might.
Let your priests be clothed with | righteousness,*
and let your saints | shout for joy.

For the sake of your servant | David,*
do not turn away the face of your a- | nointed one.
The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will | not turn back:*
“One of the sons of your body
I will set | on your throne.

If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall | teach them,*
their sons also forever
shall sit | on your throne.”
For the Lord has chosen | Zion;*
he has desired it for his | dwelling place:

“This is my resting place for- | ever;*
here I will dwell, for I have de- | sired it.
I will abundantly bless her pro- | visions;*
I will satisfy her | poor with bread.

Her priests I will clothe with sal- | vation,*
and her saints will | shout for joy.
There I will make a horn to sprout for | David;*
I have prepared a lamp for my a- | nointed.

His enemies I will | clothe with shame,*
but on him his | crown will shine.”
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

READINGS

First Reading Revelation 12:1–6
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.

L O Lord, have mercy upon us.
C Thanks be to God.

Second Reading John 19:25–27
...but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

L O Lord, have mercy  upon us.
C Thanks be to God.

Final Reading Response LSB 247
L In many and various ways, God spoke to His people of old by the prophets.
C But now in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son.

Offering
During this time at which we have been directed to “shelter at home,” you can mail your offerings to the church or give electronically at our church website by clicking here. This is the privilege and responsibility of all members of our congregation.  It is part of our worship out of gratitude for what God has done for us through his crucified and risen Son. (1 Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 9:6-8)

PRAYER

Kneel/Stand

Litany (Lent) LSB 249
The congregation’s response begins just as the leader’s petition ends so that the word “Lord” is sung simultaneously by both leader and congregation.

L For the peace from above and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For Matthew our synod president, Paul our district president, for all pastors in Christ, for all servants of the Church, and for all the people, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For Donald our president, for Jay our governor, for all public servants, for the government and those who protect us, that they may be upheld and strengthened in every good deed, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For those who work to bring peace, justice, health, and protection in this and every place, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For those who bring offerings, those who do good works in this congregation, those who toil, those who sing, and all the people here present who await from the Lord great and abundant mercy, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For favorable weather, for an abundance of the fruits of the earth, and for peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and need, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For . . . [additional bids for prayer may be inserted here] . . . let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.

The prayers then continue:

Silence for individual prayer may follow.

Collect For Peace
L O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works, give to us, Your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey Your commandments and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C Amen.

Lord’s Prayer LSB 251
L Taught by our Lord and trusting His promises, we are bold to pray:
C Our Father who art in heaven,
     hallowed be Thy name,
     Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
          as it is in heaven;
     give us this day our daily bread;
     and forgive us our trespasses
          as we forgive those
          who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
     but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
     forever and ever. Amen.

HYMN: Jesus! Name of Wondrous Love LSB 900

5 Jesus! Only name that’s giv’n
Under all the mighty heav’n
Whereby those to sin enslaved
Burst their fetters and are saved.

6 Jesus! Name of wondrous love,
Human name of God above;
Pleading only this, we flee
Helpless, O our God, to Thee.
